Do free submission forms really work?

You often see advertised free search engine submission where you fill out an application to one place and they make sure that your site will be submitted to a number of search engines. Does anyone know if this really accomplishes anything or is it just a waste of time? Does it really get any more traffic? Maybe someone with some experience on this could shed some light?

Man, what's with all of these questions? You've asked just about every major or common webmaster question in the space of an hour.

What's the angle?

Anyway, in answer to your question, a complete waste of time. Search engines crawl looking for new stuff, which means you need links to get it found.

Yep. It's a waste of time. I think people should be required to name 1000 search engines before they fill out a form submit to that many.

Thanks, that's really all I wanted was an answer. I'm sorry if I am being a bother. I learn by asking. Some people learned by doing, right? I am also hoping just to raise a little bit of discussion. Don't take it personal, please. I can't seem to win, though. I got kicked for stating my own opinions too, like about stock photos. My goal is not to upset anyone. I didn't say you were all expert photographers or should be. I'm not either. It's too bad you can't make a noob feel welcome.

No need for apologies. Adam can be suspicious sometimes, especially just after we lock him away in solitary for a few days. Ask away.

Adam only 996 to go.

Sometimes? Dude, I'm suspicious all the time! You know that as well as anyone on here.

And you can list the other 996. My hand hurts and I'm sleepy.

webstreak, please don't misread my intentions. I'm not trying to accuse you of anything at all. I just don't get why there's this barrage of questions from one person that would normally be asked by about 50, that's all.

Yeah my bad. Adam is always suspicious. We sick him on anyone who's new to the forum.

It is a lot of questions though. Most people generally don't ask so many in such a short time especially after joining. Nothing wrong with it. It's just unusual.

Adam I don't know 996 more search engines. Maybe a dozen. After that I stopped caring since the rest tend to be the same.

Submit key pages to Dmoz.org (OPD) and Euroseek.com, if need be. (Alltheweb.com for something quick) Sit back and relax. Your site will propagate the Internet naturally but slowly.

Quicker avenue, in addition paid submission to Overture. Overture feeds everyone (SE) that is anyone and needs the extra help. If after this and your making some returns do Yahoo Web Sites (although asia.yahoo.com currently lets you in for free but if excepted will still take time the propagate the other regional and primary).

While this is not entirely true, as some search engines do not find you right away, and do not have every webpage in them. You should submit yourself to different search engines as they all do not update everything ever.

For example not all websites are on Jayde which is a B2B search engine I came across, I believe I even had it submitted through some kind of promotion. But The point is if you don't submit it it won't be there.

Not all search engines will find you right away, submitting to them can make you get into them as well as ranked with them a lot faster especially if it is a niche' search engine.

Jayde is a directory with a search feature, it is not a real search engine.

Don't submit your site to search engine just wait for them to find your site and get indexed. Links from forums is the best way to get indexed quickly.

Yes, but it depends on where you submit your site. You may submit it in dmoz or in high traffic directories for you to get the traffic you want

All links can bring traffic though, even if they are in directories because people can still be using the search feature. Plus it gives a back link which can help you get indexed a lot faster.

Well, usually, it does help, I've always submitted my forums via SubmitExpress and AddMe, and they always seem to work.
