Yes they have helped out a great deal. I work backwards when I build a website. I look for a market, become a expert, and then make the site.
I use overture keyword search/suggestion for the market. Google for the knowledge and then various other trackers that chew up my access logs to find out whos visiting, what keywords they used to get there, how long they stayed on each page, and a whole slew of other things.
It has made me and others I work with a good amount of money. As you said most webmaster dont understand how to work the information and hence they lose money. So if you are not using your information and losing money ask for some help or programs that will show you what is going on with your site.
