There are so many ways to increase traffic to your site. But, you first must know who your target audience is. That way you know what method would be best to reach them. Just to name a few tactics:
Such methods could be banner ads, PPC, using Google AdWords, Network Link Building/back link building, Social Media Marketing, Email Marketing, with your content/keywords, getting yourself in your "local" such as dex, Press Releases, articles, blogs, etc.

Also, having a properly coded website (that is seo friendly) and good strong content that is keyword enriched for seo helps:

firstly, submitting your website to search engines. btw, it's not only google .. yahoo accepts site submission too.

you can also submit articles promoting your business to websites that host them. then post the link to your article on your social networking accounts.

Submitting sites to search engines is useless. Search engines won't even index your site faster.

Some people say seo, but I use a variety of ways to get traffic. I don't put all my eggs in one basket. I use seo, viral marketing sites, list builders, freeadboards, commenting on other blogs, article marketing, and forums. In my opinion there's no one way.

As per me for getting more traffic very first thing needed is -Unique and Full of useful niche informative content. and second thing is SEO both On and Off page. Then concentrate more on Off page linkbuilding task through which you can able to build quality backlinks.

Thats all I know coz I am also newbie to this but works like this from last 6 months and I have seen improvement so shared it with you.
