Best Way to increase backlinks?

How can I increase links? Are the link exchange days over? Or is this still something that should be done?
I know some if you will say that I just need to create good content that others will want to link to and therefore do this, but that is not going to work here. Ask yourself how often you link to other websites as you are browsing because of good content.

For increasing BL Participate in all webmaster forums with signature, and commend on do follow blogs also submit to bookmarking sites.

Actually quite frequently. If someone has a piece of news that I want to write about, I'm going to link to them to give them the credit, for example. Also, if they just have an interesting blog post, I'll link to them either from my blog or in social bookmarking sites.

It does work. As long as the content is something that other people are looking for or find interesting.

I feel you need to improve the quality of the content to make people revisit your website and to get more traffic you need to work on the backlinks, you could do forum postings, blog commenting and article submissions. Thanks

Well researched and insightful material is the bread and butter of successful bloggers. If you want your blog to be a success and in the process generate a tonne of backlinks you need to follow suite.

the usual ways I do to increase the backlinks of my website are blog commenting, forum posting with signatures, classifieds advertising, social bookmarking and joining social networks like twitter, facebook for viral marketing.

Here i am giving you some strategy that will helpfull for the backlink for that you have to follow the content of course:

1. Identify the top ranking sites in the vertical you’re observing
2. Identify the top ranking sites top linked-to articles, and the highest Toolbar PR pages on their site using a tool like Yahoo Site Explorer (which does a pretty good job of listing pages by the amount of links they have) – consider running it through LinkDiagnosis too for PR values
3. In turn, pick out the sites that link to those sites – chances are you’ll find these pages have a lot of PR and are trusted by Google.
4. Where relevant create similar but original, perhaps more up to date content on your site
5. Contact the sites that link to competing sites, and send them a link to your page, asking politely if it might be relevant to their visitors too.

social bookmarking, blog comments on do follow blogs and forum posting is the easiest ways for building links.. directories are also great but it takes time to get your links approved...

More article and directory submissions will increase number of the backlinks but that is not what you need. I believe that would be more reasonable to concentrate on the ranking

of course the first thing is to let others know your website.so improve your traffic is necessary.update your content is important ,my blog 's PV is betweent 100 to 200 everyday,but sevearl days ago ,i stopped to update ,than the PV decline quickly.

there are so many ways, but some of them has not been effective like they used to... is there anybody who can give the latest effective method? im using forum posting, blog commenting and social bookmarking (do follow Only), i believe this methods are still the easiest to get back links...

Those might be the easiest, but they're also some of the least effective. Article marketing is much better for backlinks as well as targeted traffic. And of course there's always link bait and getting links naturally.

i agree about what you said about link bait... but i think it is only effective in the hands of the master, i also believe that social bookmarking is much better compare to article marketing...
