Today ,i was checking backlinks for various sites today in google ,yahoo and altavista etc and found out that they all show the same few links indexed by them.Other links which are present are not shown by them.so are they using same crawlers or is there any some secret arrangment in betwen them.
I have on idea about this one, but I am pretty sure that, Google has its own individual algo system, and it by no means will share it with any other SEs.
Google and Yahoo returns different numbers of indexed pages. Yahoo indexes more than Google coz G is stricter and has a more complicated algo. That's what I've observed.

Actually I don't think this is true. Google has more pages indexed overall. But Yahoo just indexes different ones. It also takes much longer for Yahoo to index pages than it does for Google.
Hmmm... As far as I know, yahoo used google's engine before it came up with overture. If it shows same records, then it goes to show that their algo has been processing the same thing online..
Actually the idea of search engines having the same database or algo system is impossible, in my opinion. Although I didn't know that yahoo owns the altavista.. nice info there chrishirst. =)
