RSS Feeds use dynamic content, and the get updated frequently, which mean that search engines get fresh updated contact, which they like a lot.

Webpages are automatically updated whenever RSS feeds are updated; frequent content changes equates to more visits from search engine spiders, which can help your website at search engines.

Not what I asked!

I already know why they consider it "important" but why do YOU?

does it bring in traffic, enquiries, sales etc? Or are you merely making it easy for your content to be stolen? Or are you another one of the "sheeple" that has to have one because "everybody else does"?

A RSS feed is a XML node tree with the structure in a format that conforms to the RSS specification.

As to why it's considered "important" I have no idea, I consider it useful when you want to make your content available for others to replicate (or steal).
For some sites it would actually be a negative, because people don't actually HAVE to visit the site to read the information, they can simply get it directly. Bit of a major problem if you rely on advertising clicks for a "revenue stream". No visitors = No clicks.

RSS feed, it is used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries.
