depends on what you are looking for.
some of the niche engines are better for specific things. For example, krugle is really good for code.

As for general purpose search, yes, google and yahoo are best

Its all depend on the Collection of data. Google has many datacentres country wise, that's why it controls the almost 97% of the market through internet.

No. For me google is still the best. Google can drive you a huge traffic if your keywords are starting to rank.
