I was reading VanGogh's valuable blog, and I see a year ago it went into the supplemental hell because his rss feed duplicated his main content.

Has Google gotten smart enough to understand RSS, or do I need to take action to prevent that?

Anything else I should know that isn't obvious?

My blog is too new to be able to answer this, but I'll get back to you.

It looks like you've moved from Blogger to WordPress? I'd assume Blogger has the rss feed filtered out ... considering who owns it. I've heard wp is inherently "unfriendly" to search bots in a number of ways. But again, I'll get back to you when I have some real info to report.

John I don't think Google has gotten any smarter about this. Michael Gray posted about essentially the same thing that happened to me recently. His post was about WordPress comments being seo unfriendly.

I've been wondering if my problem was also associated with a plugin that I added for use in redirecting posts.

Michael also has a video post that talks about making WordPress search friendly. I highly recommend watching the video.

Thanks for the link to video.
It has depicted an elegant way of blocking GoogleBot's access to certain section of your website in order to get rid of duplicate content. But my blog host does not allow me FTP access. So, no way to tweak with robots.txt

Thanks for sharing as it will be helpful for many others.

Can you edit robots.txt through the file manager in cPanel?

I'll have to watch the video tomorrow and see what I can learn from it. I just started a blog to help promote my site, so all of a sudden, this applies to me.

I don't think you can edit it through cPanel, but I could be mistaken. Can you not FTP into your site? It's just a simple txt file.
