I love it when a thread gets into an intense debate, there have been some really good points made in this one. So anyway, might as well add my thoughts:

This is a perfectly valid point - I've seen people pay crazy money for backlinks, and seeing as though they are usually the ones who come on to forums like this and leave posts saying "Get more backlinks!" (  ), I wouldn't feel bad taking the money as its their choice.
However, I think this is a different point really to the one originally made, in that the toolbar PR is pretty much useless.
This particular point, I see to be none other than fact - its not an opinion, its pure logic. If the toolbar doesn't always give an accurate representation of what a website is like at that exact time, then it can't be considered reliable and therefore is essentially useless
My advice is to use the toolbar PR, at best as a very rough indication of a websites success.
Thats my thoughts anyway
