Ive been tinkering with titles and keywords and have been dropping unrelated backlinks.
As a result I find I have dropped from PR5 homepage to PR3 with sub pages suffering a similar loss. While this is not so bad (as my top search terms still give me page 1) I am wondering what the biggest candidate is for losing this PR would be dropping links.
I suspect its because I dropped a few dozen unrelated link exchanges due to concerns of unrelated links causing more harm than good. I gather that if I get a dozen or so related links exchanges back on the site I will see my PR increase.
Fingers crossed I made the choice of two evils, 1 was to leave it as it was and hope for the best. 2nd was to get stuck in and see whats what.
Strange thing is I seem to be enjoying this battle, And i though i was nothing but a code monkey. The web has just expanded for me and all this google stuff have just become as important as algorithms and server config.
I suppose I should thank my boss for making me do it all.
if you got PR5 in the update which occured back in april (or was it march), then you have no reason for concern, as that update was quite abnormal as many sites which had only a handful backlinks also got PR5s.
Depending on where i go for a PR check I get a PR3 but the majority are PR5 with an average of 4.8 so I am happy. My keyword search terms still give me the position I had.
Ive been adding related backlinks this past week and I am building up quite a few so we will see how that goes.

(bolding mine)
Which just goes to show why you should ignore toolbar PR
