Hopefully someone can help me out.

My/our website has over 50 pages. Yet when I check my link count, I get a return of 15 - only 1 with our url prefix. WHY? Other similar sites (competition) have most or all of their webpages show up when you do a link count, plus whatever links they have on other sites.

And, if anyone can help me with this one, I've had our link added to over 30 sites w/ PR of 4 or higher in the past several months, and none of those are showing up as well. WHY?

Ummm, maybe I'm just reading your post wrong, but I'm having a hard time understanding it. What do you mean "check you link count"? Do you mean doing a Google link: search? And what do you mean "only 1 with our url prefix"?

There's a big difference between checking if Google has all your pages in it's database and checking how many sites are linking to you.

On one of Google's pages it says that a link search willl show all pages linking to your site, but it never does. I emailed them about this and their response was that the link search only gives a sample of the actual backlinks.

Since your site's url is not in your post, that's about all I can say.

My site is www.leathercat.com. When I do a link count on Google (link:www.leathercat.com), my results = 15. I know we are listed on more than 15 sites, so why don't the other pages show up?

The URL prefix I'm talking about is for example: www.leathercat.com/leather_jackets.htm. These pages do not show up. Why? Most of our competitors pages do. Example, run a link count on www.leatherlollipop.com & you'll see that most of the first page is full of their sub-webpages (www.leatherlollipop.com/forum.cfm). Why?

Thanks!

<scratches head>

Well, leatherlollipop.com has more links coming from other sites than you do and those links probably have a higher PR than your incoming links. That would explain why lollipops homepage has a PR5 while your homepage has just a PR4...big difference.

And the higher PR of the homepage also explains why Google indexes more of lollipop's subpages; it's more important to Google.

Ummm, may I ask, why are you disallowing /images/ with your robots.txt file? I would think that you would want Google to index them as well.

Did leatherlollipop.com get a head start on you?

link:URL will only show backlinks on pages with PR4 or higher.

To actually find your links, try something like:

"URL"

where you search for your URL on Google - which should show how many times it appears (though non-active links will also show).

And if you want to see how many of your pages are indexed:

allinurl:rootURL

where rootURL is your root domain, ie, mydomain.com, rather than a subfolder- unless you specifically want to check a subfolder's indexing.

Not true.

I followed 10 backlinks the other day and found two that were less than PR4.
