TBH I think google has gone downhill a lot lately. I normally do well enough out of it, but when I'm trying to get new clients in it's a nightmare.
Example:
A recent project, search for Boat Repairs North Wales in google.
The #1 & #2 is my website design site - nothing to do with boat repair
#3 & #4 are BBC news stories
#5 news story
#6 & #7 another search engine/directory
#8 a marina
#9 & #10 another search engine/directory
so on the 1st page only 1 result related to the actual search
Now do the same search on MSN
#1 My client
#2 & #3 Me
#4 another search engine/directory
#5 Boat repair company
#6 Vaugely related
#7 Another search engine/directory
#8 Boat repair company
#9 BBC News Story
#10 not related
so that's 3 related to the actual search = 3x better than Google.
I think google is placing far too much empasis on it's algorithms, and not enough on actually getting relvant results.
my client still not showing up in all but the most rediculously specific searches, after 4 months online, and despite being spidered regularly and having a PR of 3 on the home page, which is respectable enough.
Personally I still use google, but must admit I find myself wandering over to MSN more and more.
