im sorry but i have to disagree with this very strongly

PR is not fullproof but it is a great way for search engines to rank sites etc

"Your Pagerank is nothing more than something for the EGO."

I agree that the end goal is to obtain traffic and derive revenue and you CAN do this without having a good PR. However, having a good pr will help your sites get listed higher in the SE

Check out 'phentermine' 'viagra' and 'web hosting' ... tell me where the high pagerankers are?
its not as straight forward as that. Having a page rank of 9 doesnt mean you will always be top of the list for every search - there are many other aspects to consider - keywords, content, search terms etc

i agree a little with what your saying
i do agree that there are many webmasters obsessed with it - time they could be spending adding more content to their site etc

but the page rank system is a very good one - the simple idea that people will link to good sites is a good one

I agree with what AhmedF said, but also think that it was not a fair comparison to use that PR9 site to compare www.apache.org (PR10). Of course, until you get to the 70th result, there are distortions and those would be due to other factors.

Bottom line is - if you rank higher on the SERP for a desirable keyword/phrases, that's all that counts.

I partly agree. If had the choice between advertising on a PR2 or a PR6 (everything else equal) I would clearly go with the PR6.

PageRank IS a part of the ranking algorithm, but it is just 1 of a 100 other factors. I believe Google has reduced the weight of PR in their algorithm as of late, but I still believe it is important. However, OVERALL link popularity and anchor text are the key to top rankings.

'page rank' is fine as a concept, but as google practices it it doesn't work well. Google results are not very good. Results are often filled with directories, link farms, and portals that are often slightly off topic, but have high page ranks. And the internet is full of link trading that says nothing about the quality or relevance of a site, just that there are a lot of links pointing to it.

link farms etc usually have a terribly low pr because of the number of outgoing sites

True, it's not perfectly straight forward, but niether is keywords and content. EX: the number one result with my most needed and most wanted keywords doesn't even mention the keywords on their page and has no content on the index page and not much content elsewhere.

It's down right depressing

How are they number 1? The best I can determine, after months of research, is that their backlinks, of which they have about 60 showing with Google, are all at least PR5 and all use the keywords that match the search phrase.
