Hi Everyone,
there is a little mystery... my website www.searchadegree.com has a pagerank 2 on main page...but when you check "About us' page...it has a page rank 3...my question is how did this happen. This About us page was never promoted alone and does not have much content on it either. Instead I wanted main page to have page rank3. Any idea.

best regards,

Iqtadar Raja

if every page on your site links to the about us page it may ave earned the PR through internal linking.

it is as linked internally, as other pages e.g. Advertise, Contact us etc etc.
They all have PR 2...how come this clever page is PR 3.

Noone will know for sure, It could be anything from the way and time google took to spider your site, to your internal linking structure.

A lot of people have been reporting high pr internal pages and lower home pages lately.
Noot that it makes any difference.

It could also just be because the site and page are new to the index. Page Rank is an iterative process. You get assigned a value at first that is often higher than what the page will be after it's been through the algorithm a few times. It's common for new pages to have a higher PR than the will at the next update.

the basic answer is the toolbar display is NOT even close to being accurate.

it is an integer value derived from the real value so rounding errors apply

what is showing as PR2 may be calculated to be 2.499999999999 and the PR3 page may be 2.5
