Yes, Google is defenitly worth it. I don't worry to much about pageranks, but all the rest I do. Actually most of my traffic comes from word of mouth and google. It's a pain in the butt, but it's worth it to take the time and prepare your pages for google.
Also, alot of sites I get traffic from also use google's search system into their pages.
If your rank is 450 on a page, then your keywords are way to broad. You shoudl narrow them down. For example, if you sell moped bikes in Some City, North Carolina, instead of putting "bikes" or "mopeds" in your keywords, use "moped bikes", "north carolina bikes", "some city moped bikes" instead.
It may seem like you will get less traffic this way, but actually broad words like "mopeds" and "bikes", you are competing with literlly millions of webpage from around the world that have to do with mopeds and bikes. So instead, narrow it down by getting as specific as possible.
Next, watch your stats for the following months to get an idea of what keywords people are using to get to your pages, etc. This will help you adjust your keywords even further.
Hope this helps,
Tia
