I have just seen a jump in listings to 2 sites that I deal with. There has been no pr update or backlink update that I can see. I have jumped to between page one and page three in very competitive keywords. Searches with over 47 million sites.
Has anyone else noticed the change or is it just me. I have also noticed that different sites one with a .com and one with a .co.uk does better in that google engine eg the .co.uk site does better in google.co.uk than google.com is this normal or has google changed things again??
There have been some shakeups that way lately. I'm monitoring one keyword and in the past two weeks alone it's gone from 11-14 (consistently for about a 3-month period) to #6 to #40 to #36 back to #6 to #32 and today it's at #6 .
Fortunately, it's a keyword and a site that I don't really give that much of a **** about...any interest I have in it is purely academic.
But you're right, thetonman: there is a shakeup going on of some sort, but it's way too early to read into it (although I'm sure a million web designers are going to come up with some BS sandbox theory).
If it is a sandbox theory it is working the other way round. I designed a site and optomised it about 3 weeks ago and now that site is hitting top spot all over google.com again it is a holiday related site so there is huge competition there.
Lets hope it continues and that not many changes will be needed in the future but i think that is wishful thinking.
I just had 2 sites come out of the sandbox, both were page 20-30 for targetted keywords, now they're page 1. They have both just had their first birthday.
Another quick question. On the computer in my office I am getting different listings than on my pc at home. I go to google.co.uk in the office and I am page 1 when i goto google.co.uk at home I am page 2 is this normal?
Thanks for the reply. Firstly I don't think it is the Ip geo targetting As you said I don't think they are that sophisticated yet. Secondly I was not looged into any G account on either comp. I tried logging in this morning and doing the search again and it still showed the same results. I think they must be testing algo are shuffling data centres. Fingers crossed that the page 1 listing I have on my machine here takes effect across all datacentres soon as It would help me greatly as I have worked on these listings for months now.

Could be shuffling, but I also saw a huge jump on one of my sites. I logged in to the keyword backlink tracker and refreshed all of my keywords- out of about 40 keyphrases I used to only show up for 20-25 of them... and was only in the top 30 for 10. Now I show up for 39 out of 40 and I'm in the top 30 for over 20 of them.
I deleted my google cookies and logged out of my accounts to be sure.
