There are no tricks to get yourself ranked higher in google or any other search engine. As soon as someone comes up with a trick, Google knows, it's there business to know. So they will let the trick go to see who uses it, then down-rank all the sites that are. They will punish you for cheating.

If you want to get yourself ranked higher, network. Link to and from your friends pages, spread the word, and get yourself noticed. When you have legitimate links to your page, it will get ranked higher.

There are no tricks, and even if there were, don't you think the rest of the world wants accurate search results? Google wouldn't be very popular if they had flawed results would they?

collyer_1, you are so right, and I guess may other viewers also agree with your comments...

To other viewers, guarantees of being listed in the top 10 of Google, Yahoo, and MSN, perhaps even AOL for an exchange of a few hundred dollars.... ok, so there are 28,000,000 + websites but they are guarantee you to be in the top 10, c'mon, do you really believe they phone just 10 websites per day...WAKE UP!!!

So don't fall for this sales pitch, Google say in their TOS that you cannot buy your way to the top.

And they employ some of the very best and very talented characters in the tech world, many of whom are well in advance of our primitive webmaster skills, ok perhaps just mine

Plus they have technology at their disposal that we can only dream about.

So don't fall for the scams, just put up your website and follow the information provided by Google and Yahoo and what's posted on this informative website...

No one can guarantee a top ten placement. This is a great article on that subject.

Top ten guarantee

Excellent article, and great information

I would say the only "trick" is to not use any tricks. Use valid coding, proper hierarchy, keyword considerate copy, and CSS.

I can't count how many clients and potential clients I have talked to that thought you could just "turn on" top 5 results.

Well if that was the case, why doesn't everyone else do that and bump you off the top 5?

My only problem with adwords, is in many cases people tend to trust actual results vs the paid for results.

I can think of one trick and it's called hard work.

3pointRoss even more than clients thinking they can just turn on top 5 results is that many think they should only have to pay about $50 for you to get them there so they can make their first million tomorrow.

Good thread collyer. Sad thing is next week we'll be answering posts asking what the magic formula is to get a #1 rank.

though there are no "tricks", we can know and follow a lot of "tips"
and with hard work as vangogh has mentioned we can get to ranks in SEs.

Exactly. Get yourself some respectable, and valid links and you'll rise up the ranks in no time.

Watch the video that is posted in the google forum, he actually mentions how to get ranked higher.

If you get a top 10 ranking you are either doing something right or very wrong.

Fine, fine... I agree that there are no "Tricks", but you can easily promote yourself by swapping and trading links with other websites in similar areas of knowledge as yourself. I have created an informative website about a local Castle and this jumped to page 1 on Google within a few months. I have only linked to a few sites and I have beaten several paid submissions! 100% Free!

Nobody is saying you can't do anything to promote yourself. There's a lot you can do. What you did to get links is the kind of thing you should be doing. Don't misinterpret your quick succes though for something that is easily done.

I don't know all the keywords for which yuur site ranks, but I did try what I think to be your main keyword phrase (stapleton castle) in Google and while you were #2 when I checked, it's not a particularly cmpetitive keyword.

Climbing to page 1 for the single keyword castle would't be quite as fast and would probably take years of acquiring backlinks to get anywhere close to page 1.

Still congrats on getting to to page 1 for some keywords. Not everyone can do that and it's a nice accomplishment.

Thanks. I am still fairly new at this game. I think I move on to fast- I have created far too many sites in a small space of time - some don't even get finished! If I could concentrate on one, I would probably be on page 1 for the keyword, uh, what shall I say... "Computer games"!!!!!

Don't get me wrong I think what you did is an accomplishment. Most people can't get ranked for any keywords. I think learning how to get ranked for less competitive keywords is a good first step in seo. The competitive keywords mostly come down to hard work and time. Most of what you need to do is the same as what you do for non-competitive keywords. The problem is so many other sites have already done the same thing so it takes more work and time to catch up with them.

LMAO, there are lots of "tricks" to gaining good ranking. How else would i be able to provide it as a service and get my sites higher placed than my competition? Also to say that you should only get links by organic growth is amusing. Google or any oth
