i have 'nudist vacation rentals' and 'child friendly vacation rentals' as keywords on my page.
i recently found that 'nudist children' is one of my top search terms according to google site maps beta.

this of course is not good. will i be penalised by google? is so what can i do?

why should you get penalised by Google ?? and what has Google site maps got to do with what your top search terms are??
Do your logs show hits for the phrase?
Have you got that phrase on your pages ?

no i dont have that exact phrase on my site.
why should google penalise me?? wel i have nevere tried but i'm sure child porn isn't something that google returns happily in it's SERPs.
as for google site maps - if you use it you will notice it reports your most popular search terms in the stats section.
my logs do show visits via google for this term.

Ahhh, I didn't realise your site was about that. I thought it was just a nudist vacation site.

I don't know how it will affect you as far as penalties go, but it certainly can't be good for the image of your site. As long as you keep the nudist vacations and the child friendly vacations on separate pages there shouldn't be a problem. Both are legitimate vacations. Just try to keep the info about each completely separate from the other page.

Sad though that anyone would type the phrase into a search engine in the first place.

What makes you assume that a search for nudist children is a child pr0n term, it could simply be a search for nudist beaches or resorts where children are welcome, and if the phrase isn't on your site why should you bother??

( actually if you check properly it appears on 16 pages as two disparate words )

Google is not some all powerful entity waiting to punish any trangression ( Hallowed be the Ori )
It is a network of parallel processing computers running several software operations that can analyse words and phrase stuctures in documents and return pointers to the relative documents on request.
The sooner people realise that fact the better it will be all round!

Don't use Google site maps, never likely to. Any site I build is designed to be search engine friendly from day one.

You're right Chris and it should never be assumed what's in the mind of a searcher or what their intent is. Have a hunch though that people searching for 'nudist children' are looking for something other than beaches or resorts, but you're right in that I shouldn't assume that.

Just been doing a bit of research and the site map stats thing apparently only reports on what it finds on the pages in much the same way that these crappy "SEO analysis" tools do. So it isn't what your site is being found for! Only your logs will tell you that.
