I don't believe PR is all that important anymore but for those of you who still believe it is and want decent PR is a short space of time, i thought id share my experiences.

I started nutriadvice.com and got a PR of 5 in about 2 months and here's how;
basically because the site consists of 5000 pages of info. I then created a google sitemap and google listed all 5000 pages within about 3 weeks. PR factors in internal linkages to your site and of course all 5000 pages linked back to nutriadvice.com among other internal pages. I had absolutely no external backlinks to my site only internal ones and as i said ended up with a PR of 5. Having no external backlinks does little for your traffic, but if PR is important to you, many pages and a google sitemap can help.

I did the same with articleforfree.com and got a PR of 4 after 2 months.
The good thing about this tactic as it requires so little work, pretty much just lots of generic info pages and a google sitemap. Then again realising that PR isn't that relevant will also save you a lot of work.

hope this helps someone.

Great post, I wasn't going to even consider a Google sitemap but I'll really look into it now. My website has only been online for 25 days but has a predicted PR of 4 with very few site pages... It does seem that collecting backlinks is a FAR more painstaking process though...

YES!!!!!!!

Forget about these stupid formulas and percentages 'cos as you found they are just useless crap, and just write natural sounding copy that is good for users. You'll find it will do much better.

I agree completely with Chris. PR is not going to do anything to get you more traffic or convert traffic coming to your site. It may have at one time, but today it's most effective as entertainment.

i have just launced a new site that has 3000 pages of content. Are you saying if i get absolutely no incoming links then i will get a page rank? I didn't think that happened.

*edit* your article for free website doesnt appear to have pagerank, what site have you got with no incoming links and PR 5? *edit*

Every page automatically gets some page rank and even internal pages can transfer page rank. Of course if you have 0 incoming links then Google doesn't know you exist. So if a site has no incoming links and Goolge's not there to'see it does it make a sound? Or something like that.

And then again page rank is pretty much meaningless in generating traffic.

Page rank might be meaningless but backlinks aren't. The thread starter said his PR jumped up just due to the internal links that pointed to the home page of the website. I have seen most of my competitor websites too having most of their backlinks from inside the website itself. But google, msn, yahoo never seem to recognise my website's internal backlinks. All the pages in my website have a shared navigation, thus each page must have been pointing to the index. Yet it never shows up when I search for my backlinks in these search engines. What do I do to solve this?

Also, I have a directory section which uses a completely different layout and has its pages as html files. Here, I have posted some of the links pointing to the index and these links appear as backlinks in Yahoo and Msn. Is it because of the php include that the links in the navigation bar in other pages of my website not being considered back links to the index?

Hope this makes sense.

i've since sold articleforfree.com, so have no control over what they have done with it.

the site i refer to is nutriadvice.com. don't get me wrong it has a few external links but not more then 5-10. those 5-10 did not get it a PR of 5, it was the internal pages.

Yes PR is crap, I was simply making the point high PR is fairly easy to obtain.

nutriadvice.com has 1,620 backlinks registered in yahoo, some of these are from nutriadvice.com but large majority are from other sites. It appears you have some index page listings and sitewide links that are generating your PR 5.
