I am about to start AdWords campaign for my product, SonicMailer Pro. It is a PHP mailing list manager.

Now, I have a list of some key phrases that I would like to put down for the campaign, but of course if I do it myself I am very limited to my "imagination".

So, I am asking for some assistance from all of you... If you could please list some keywords/phrases that you would likely search for, if looking for a mailing list manager.

Thanks!

Hey Chief do you use adwords? They have various ways of entering it, and I could type in "mailing list" (but without quotes" and most of the ones you listed would show up...

IF you do use AdWords, which type of phrases do you recommend? Exact or broad?

I recomend you use 'Exact' phrases as you will proberly recieve alot of irelavent hits if you use broad phrases, which will only make you loose money as I did.

Chopper: So having ... say 50 "exact phrases" is okay? I completely agree that the traffic is potentially much better... just seems a bit odd heh... how many phrases do you have?

I have over 50 'exact phrases'. You could try broad phrases to see if it works out ok. Im in a different market than you so broad phrases could be good for you but not for myself and vise versa. I suggest you try out both exact and broad and study your stats to see which work better for your product.

That's a nice ad.

Of course, you can do more than one ad. But instead of that, perhaps going one week with one ad, then changing that for a week, would give you an idea of which works better.

Good idea...
I've gotten recommendations from others to add more "keyword-rich" content as the description... such as PHP and MySQL somewhere in there...

any suggestions? Also, do you think "SonicMailer Pro" should be the title, or something like "List management software" or something along those lines?

Looks good, but they probably will deny that one.

You can't repeat the same words. Ex. "mailing list" and "PHP"

It will stay active until they get around to doing the manual review of it. Id say 95% it will be disabled.

There terms state "No repeated words or phrases."

Hmm... well I started it.. and so far 63 impressions with 0 clicks. On one hand, haven't lost any money yet (yay! lol) on the other hand... NO ONE is clicking!

Is this normal to have gotten to 63 impressions with 0 clicks? From what I understand google adwords (and text links in general) generate quite a few clicks!?!

That's only 63 impressions. You have to have more patience.

My CTR is 0.7%. Which means that out of the 20754 impressions that I've had, there have only been 153 clickthroughs. And of course, not everybody is going to buy.

I know that the item that I have listed isn't too sought after, so the CTR for some other things might be much higher (or lower).

I think the number of impressions is probably a lot higher now because of the AdSense program. Of course, you have to consider that people might be searching for 'mailing list manager' or something like that, but they might not be planning on purchasing a script, rather downloading a free one.

yah.... I've excluded "free" from search terms, but I can understand people not including it even when looking for a free one...

As I said, I have basically ZERO experience with advertising... so i wasn't sure what a "good" CTR was...

Directly after posting that above comment, I checked my email and I had sold another of the items that I advertise through Google Adwords.

Thank you, Google Adwords.
