Tony: the technique doesn't work. Like mgarde said, it was just a cheap attempt to get an inbound link search engines would recognize.

Simply put, if you want to get indexed by the search engines, you need other sites pointing to yours. Don't bother submitting to search engines. It's a complete and total waste of time.

You're right - the OP's suggested way to get listed does not work, but it did get people to list techniques that do work. That's what I found helpful.
