Hi people.....

I have been making websites from a long time now and the most important thing that i have noticed about the google page rank system is that , once your site gets listed on the Open Directory Project your sites rank jumos up immediately. I founf this out wiht my earlier website http://www.beta-theta.com /////

I have designed this new website of mine http://www.alchemy-education.com I submitted the site on the dmoz thing many times but the site isnt getting listed.

Can anyone point out some things that can ensure an open directory listing.

That should pretty much guarantee that you don't get listed.

If the editor views their queue in date order each time you submit you push the earlier one to the back again.
Ways to get listed;
Write your description in accordance with the guidelines,
Submit once to the correct category,
Don't make repeated submissions,

But nothing can ensure a listing.

There is nothing special about DMOZ link apart from the factor that the link your website goes on has good PR. If you can get a link of same pr on other site then it would be of same effect.

Any other directories to submit to? Or better ones..? Seeing that bernard said its a bad idea, then what would u suggest?

Hey, I would like to appreciate Praveen for providing nice link of directory submission manager. IMO, it is better to submit your site as many directories as you can proceed to increase PR.
I think you should visit some more popular forum also for dmoz directory reviews like here.

How do we check whether our site is accepted by DMOZ? I submitted before, and it says allows 2-3 months period before it is accepted.

My site is yet not listed in DMOZ and finally I have given up. But I still think A DMOZ listing can significantly increase Page Rank

yes of course a pr 9 backlink increases your PR!!

not so long ago, one of my sites got a pr 7 backlink (and 50 pr 0's and 20 pr 1's), and it jumped from pr0 to pr5

Given that PR is supposed to be a measure of a site's 'importance' but the number of signature backlinks your site gets is only a measure of how many posts you make, in an ideal world forum posts wouldn't increase your PR.

DMOZ is a great way to get your site ranking up but it takes a while!

If the forum signatures are seen by the guests and they dont add the rel="nofollow" attribute

Are u guys sure that forum signatures wont work ?? I've been participating in many forums and I dont seem to get a good result.

forum signature might be of some value but more likely aren't

You are stuck in this stupid idea that links are everything, they aren't.
Links are just one part of the overall process, and links from forums, newly launched directories (predicted PR of 10), Half-assed (I got bored when I found it meant work) directories, Hundreds of clone "article" directories, link farms, exchange schemes, 3 way, 5 way, trapezoidal way, Links swaps with every muppet who wants to are of the least value.
