Do you have any ideas about the factors that google take into account for its Page Rank?
Links, Keywords, anything else?

Hi snowstar,

as I understand it, the more quality links that your site gets, the higher your pagerank. Links to your site carry different weight: links from pages with higher pageranks give more weight than those with a lower pagerank.

BUT - a high pagerank won't necessarily mean that your site ranks highly in somebody's search.

Google say that around 100 factors are taken into consideration. No surprisingly what they are and how much weight each bears in a closely guarded secret.

SEOMOZ did an article listing 93 factors that they think affect your SERPS. worth a look:

Sorry - misread that. Thought we were looking at factors affecting rankings, rather than those affecting Page Rank. Oh well - hope the article was interesting anyway.

The only factor that affects Page Rank is incoming Page Rank.

So that's incoming links, the rank of those links and the number of links that you are sharing that rank with.

Best not to get to hung up over page rank. It is possible to rate very well on highly competitive terms and very little PR.

well this is what someone told me, is to publish some quality articles in any archives with a good PR. the trick is the quality of your article ofcourse. This is probably easier with some subject matters than others. I still can't find a good archive for what I'm looking for but hey there is only so many hours in the day!

If you are going to publish articles to get better rankings in a search engine, make sure you take into account the keyword phrase you are going after and the keyword density.

In my opinion using article is a hard way to raise your Page Rank. The problem with articles is they often fire off duplicate filters and this means they won't pass page rank so you can only really rexpect to get one link that will pass Page rank for each article and the chances are it won't be on a very high PR page.

Article can bring good traffic though, exspecaily if they are really good articles.

Do you mean that even the original articles might still be treated as duplicated?

In my experience, there's a lot of minute things you can do to slightly improve your rankings-- solid meta descriptions, keywords, titles of pages, relevant link building.

Two things not mentioned yet--

Be sure to include the keywords you are targetting early in the page, ie, the first paragraph. This will help affirm to the SERPS that your page is definitively about the keyword you are targetting.

Secondly, as the old saying goes..

Content, Content, Content.

No matter what you do, if your content is in the dumps, it is likely that your rankings for that page will be in the dumps too.

I think the factors that determine PR change regularly, some have mor eweight than others. there's 100s of them apparently...
