This product is now released. I have it downloaded, it looks nice. Although you DO need a gmail account to use it. Which will be annoying for some.. Let the gmail invite fight beggin again!
If they would have added like a way you could use the gmail client with Yahoo, MSN and AIM that woulda been better. I like the way theisonews.com titled the google IM article they wrote. "Google continues world domination with new IM client" lawl
For now its so basic. I do not much care for the smileys but file tranfer and such on MSN and yahoo messengers are nice. They plan to update it with new features. I hope to see a brand new feature that no-one else has yet. For now I will stick with MSN and yahoo.
Why do you think so? YOu can sign up for gmail just like yahoo or anyother one... and GIM is just like YIM because yahoo requires you to have a yahoo id too... so I dont see why itsgonna stop it from becoming popular...
yup thats the reason I said so,unless you dont get an invitation from someone you cant get gmail. I think it would have been better if google had made gmail available for everyone and then launched Google talk.
I really don't see the reason why they came up with those invite scheme to promote their IM. how can they get more people to avail it if its just exclusive to gmail users.
MSN Messenger was limited to hotmail when that first appeared but soon changed And now you have to have a MSN passport ID, Gmail is the Google Passport.
Might just have some Gmail invites if you ask nicely

I've been using it for a while now. It's a little too plain for my tastes. Plus you can't send files over it or anything like that. I still prefer MSN.

Gmail has been in beta for too long. I don't mind them having the IM software require a Gmail account, but seriously, the testing phase is over. They're just trying to create hype...
