HI All,
Can anyone tell me more about the bourbon update.?
Has anyone studied what this update prefers to see in a page or site?

Several of my sites have taken some position losses since its intro, and I am trying to find out how to satisfy the new Alogo

Any advise or links would be appreciated. (I have already read the report from webpro news) but it told little of bourbons preferences.

Thanks again
Smokey

"bourbon" update? which one was that.

Consider this. I don't follow any of this latest formula for high ranking crap, and strangely enough never have to bother finding out what the latest and greatest ideas are. Simply because no site I look after ever looses anything during these updates.

Now I wonder why that is ???

HI Chris,
Thanks for the reply.
I was feeling that cocky a month ago.
Now some of my newer sites are doing a lot of dancing and some loss of positions in the last month.

I think the sites, that are less affected are organic and have lots of inbound links.

I was just wondering if anyone knows what bourbons actual preferences are?

Google dislikes a robot generated spam(you know what that is) page. After that it is looking for the most relevant page to sastify the demands of the searcher's request. The updates/new alogoes are just a "better" way to satisfy those simple requirements.

After a little more looking, it appears that the sites that have bumped mine down are most often directories.
Anyone else noticing directories beating you out, where they didn't before bourbon?

How about you guys with directories, any noticable improvement since bourbon?

Maybe just my sites but wondering of it is a trend.

Google is smart enough to understand the entire theme of your site more following the last update and gives authority to your pages for on topic themes.

For example a site about widgets with a good PR will rank for pages with anchor links that say "Blue Green" in the SERPS for Blue green widget where as Yahoo and MSN still need to see anchor text EXACTLY the same as the search term ie anchor text for Yahoo to the same page would have to say "Blue Green Widgets"

I notice this more so since the last update.

Directory sites tend to do well because of the links out to on topic pages which is an obvious factor. Google is smart enough to know its a directory (it may pull on DMOZ for this confirmation) and for what ever reason gives weight to directory sites.

Currently, i think Google does a superb job and is by far the best search engine compared to MSN and Yahoo. However, they can always try and F@ck it up at the next update (lets hope they dont).

Good Luck

Hi smokey99,

I've not find much info on the Bourbon update but there again I have not been looking. I do remember reading something about the introduction of Google Sitemaps and sites using it since the update are seeing improved results but have not had time to do any testing.

Another thing I read was content is again becoming more important than on previous algo's, introducing a highly relevant article section on your site with each article pointing links back to relevant main pages of your site would keep um happy.

The other thing I heard was the update was more focused on reducing spam / non useful sites rather than improving the actual ranking crieteria.

I'm sure if you do quick bit of research a lot more will come to light, like I say the above is just a few things I've read the sources may not be that reliable.

Hope this helps
