You don't. It's one site built for users. Oddly enough the SEs seem to find that kind of site good as well.

I tend to disagree with chrishirt (what's new?). Yes, you do develop for users. That much is true.

Considering the impact the SEs have on driving traffic to a website, I strongly believe that you must take them into account as well. There are some "basics" that can make ranking in the variety of SEs possible. Some are:
  • Heading Tags
  • Alt Tags
  • Content (e.g. keyword phrases mixed within without oversaturation)

I also believe in placing the Keywords and Description meta tags in for those SEs that do use them as well as a number of directories and such that pull directly from them. For the little bit of time it takes to place them on the page, I feel they are worth the effort.

Unlike some, I am a strong believer in link building (understand, it is my business ) and getting those as 1 way links (ex: publish articles, develop tools and articles on your site people want to link to, etc.) is absolutely optimal. Then getting reciprocal, 3 or more way link trades and submitting to general as well as niche directories all help get you ranked higher in the major SEs. IMHO.

True,

just making ur pages SE friendly doesnt (i could be wrong) gurantee u a good ranking. tools, articles which get the people to come to your site and link to them is a great puller of traffic
and also getting some links in other sites either by way of link exchange or by way of paid listings would do a good deal

I'm not sure how exactly that would be disagreeing.
You are doing exactly the same things that would be done for any site.

I follow two things, that are mandatory but enough. w3.org specifications on html code + designing the page for people, not for spiders. Then only the link exchange is left to be done.
