Hi all,

I'm new to your forum . I just wondered whether you could shed some light on my recent good 'furtune'.

I inherited the website that promotes the company I work for and redeveloped it. Originally the website used frames and wasn't optimised in any way for search engines. It ranked nowhere. I changed all that and made the pages all content rich with keywords everywhere and put the new site (same name) live on Friday. Now when you search for "transport management solution" it comes in 3rd (searching the WHOLE web). Now I'm happy with that! BUT.... I have a couple of questions:
  1. Why did it rank so highly so quickly? Is it down to my use of keyphrases. There are only 2 (two) backlinks to the site.
  1. Will the placing go down over time? I suspect so....

Any ideas?

It ranked highly quickly because you optimized it a little, and the site itself (domain) isn't new. Keep this in mind though, ranking high for "transport management solution" isn't difficult because it isn't a targeted search term. If I search Google for this term in quotes, I only get 504 results. Just a little tweeking could land you on the #1 spot.

You're teasing now. What kind of tweaking? Do you mean modifying the content or increasing inbound links?

Exactly!

As kline said, no one esle is targeting transport management
solutions, with or without quotes, heh. There is not one ad
there, and for good reason cuz checking with the overture
keyword suggestion tool

http://inventory.overture.com/d/sear...ry/suggestion/

There were no searches done in July for that phrase.

Clipping off the last word and checking transport management
shows only 152 searches in July.

You need a ****load of keyword research.

Start by checking the source of your competitors home pages for
their keywords, title, etc. Then search those keywords and see
who is who there.

If you stand to profit greatly from a sale, maybe you should
advertise with google for that phrase, since you'd be the only
one, you might do well. Otherwise, you need to find out what
keywords your customers would use to find you.

Thanks for the comments Bompa. I suppose I'm lucky in that transport management software is niche compared to "big ****s" or "gamez".

Is it likely that without backlinks, the high ranking will diminish over time? I ask this question only out of curiosity, because already this morning I've submitted my site to about 30 directories.

It sounds like you have found an excellent niche: transport management solutions.

Now, see if you can become number one. That'd be a fun exercise, since you are already number three!
