I use Awstats to monitor my website activity and recently, in the links from a search engine category, a link from "Google (images)" appeared. It's a slightly different format than a normal link. Awstats shows 2 numbers after each link for ex. A link from google appears as "Google 24 24" whereas there is a link that appears as "Google (images) 0 4"

I host a lot of images on my site so I was wondering if anyone knew what this meant or if there was a way to increase the number of hits in that category?

I can tell you this from own experience. Some sites I have that don't normally have high rankings in Google's text searches have very high rankings in the image section. These sites have a lot of wallpaper and use a ton of bandwidth though. So I guess one strategy could be to try an use as many images as possible and name them your keywords. The biggest problem with images in Google is if your trying to sell something, you want convert anywhere near what you would if had a high ranking in a text search.
