Does GOOGLE penalize sites that contain links to amazon or IMG elements that contain amazon pics as their SRC? I have read on other forums where GOOGLE is no fan of affiliate sites and tends not to index those sites. Is there any truth to this?

Buy books online.

google has duplicate content filters for specific keyword searches. This means that for a keyword like "computer books" it wont show a whole page of sites with the same information on it. If you have an affiliate site then it is likely that a lot of other people have the exact same content making it harder to rank well.

The way i get round this is to re-write a little of the content and make some design changes, i usually change the template of the site as well so the HTML looks different but you cant just rely on this you will have to add lots of extra related content to the site as well and optimise the pages well for your targeted keywords.

Looking at you site it looks like you don't actually have any content at all just affiliate links. This type of site will never rank well in google although if you go mad on link trading it may get a good listing on msn (the way it works at the moment anyway).

You need to build interior pages in your domain with your products and information on so that these pages are indexed and displayed in SERP's. I'm not familiar with amazons affiliate program so i cant be more specific than that. I had a look at what they were offering about a year ago but it seemed pretty limp unless you have a high traffic site and space to put an amazon button.

One idea which would require a lot of work would be to write a book review site, taking each product and writing a review (or re-wording someone elses) and giving links to relevant content and then have the link to buy with your affiliate code on that page. If you structure the pages right, pay attention to how you word the text and build a good linking scheme then you will probably be able to generate hits and an income. This would be a good exercise if this is your first project but if i were you i would pick a field that has less competition.

Google does not penalize the sites that has content from the affiliates like amazon. Its just that the other content on the page that can rank well and not just the link. That link can help in generating the PR for your affiliate page on amazon and gain some SERP.
