I noticed today that between the google updates for my site SearchBliss (approx every 48 hours), they list my site with the DMOZ description. No where on my site is this text. It is word for word from my DMOZ listing.
Here is google:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...iss&lr=lang_en

Here is DMOZ:
http://search.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/searc...ch=searchbliss

If it is no longer the same, check again in a day.

Very odd huh? Anyone else notice this with their site(s)?

This is because of the reasons that google has no desciption to show on your homepage. Just lots of links. Also your Meta description is full of keywords and no description and Google is smart enough to find the description from DMOZ.

shabbirbhimani,
Interesting. Google uses peices of my website description and "used to use" my logo alt tags more often, depending on the search terms. Now they seem to use either the DMOZ description or the my meta tag description. Why have they stopped using my logo alt tag?

When I search for "Free web tools", Google displays my meta tag description.

Here (page 1): http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...ols&lr=lang_en

"SEO tools, resources and website content. Build free websites, design web menus
and buttons with tons of web tools for the webmaster."

When I search for "webmaster tools", they use DMOZ's description.
Here (page 1): http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...ols&lr=lang_en

The only way I could get Google to display my alt was to use a chunk, word for word in quotes (exact phrase).

Here: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...rch&lr=lang_en

Here is my conclusion in addition to the lack of text at the top of SearchBliss. I think G is thinking much less about alt tags for some reason. I have good placement on the SERP's with more links rather than text, so I don't want to change much... Anyway, I haven't had my coffee yet and I'm no longer going to make much sense, Thanks.

It seems G updated my home page and is now using info from it. I guess I won't see the DMOZ description for a day or two until the next update.

I'm getting the same thing with AOL. Google has my site listed saying *Welcome to Horrormovies&stuff a site DEADicated to horror*, which is what I have in my tags. But AOL has my site listed as "The Ring 2,The Ring Two,Dark Castles House of Wax" which are keywords of movie titles that are listed in my tags after *Welcome to Horrormovies&stuff a site DEADicated to horror*. Interestingly enough I got rid of both words "The Ring 2" and "The Ring Two" like 3 days ago, since they werent helping me in the searches and by the time I got to the first page the movie would be so old no one would care to search for it. MSN seems to be the smartest next to google, they have my site title Horrormovies&stuff listed and then after that they have "War of the Worlds" (replaced the ring two and the ring 2 with war of the worlds),and "Dark Castles House of Wax" listed as keywords.

If we dont provide any description for the G to show it can show a description that it finds which has keywords and some text near that keywords.

ALT text is not the exact description of your site and so it does not display them with consistency.iw ould suggest if you dont have any description go for Meta Description.

Thanks

Google spiders different pages on my site on different days, dunno if this could contribute to weird effect.
