On the last backlink update Google did something weird. Three of my sites changed as follows:

"LinkCount" Old/New Change

Sate A 162/355 .... + 120 %

Sate B 649/690 ....... + 6 %

Sate C 202/26 ....... - 87 %

Almost a 90 % reduction is way out of line with other results.

Nothing really changed on any of the sites except Google’s reporting. No change in serps or anything else. Site C, is my bread and butter, and I am concerned that the new numbers portend a problem.

Might I have a problem here, and can anyone suggest what it might be? What can I do about it?

Site C is my plastic site.

I think Google droped backlinks all around because they lowered a lot of PR's. I found that if a site's PR drops below a 3 and/or 4, Google usually doesn't count the backlink from that site. My backlinks droped from 389 to 255. Luckily my PR stayed a 6.

google is using what i would consider unethical techniques. I hope MSN blows them out of the water...

Theyre sandboxing sites to promote users to buy ad-words and to reduce spam... but if their results are old.. why use google

I am retired from an office I still visit. Its full of engineers. You can tell a lot about their internet preferences, from what is on their screens when they are away from their desks. It is almost always their yahoo personal page, or a Google search results page.

Yesterday it was yahoo and MSN search results page. Interesting that knowledgable people are switching from Google.

Personally, I have sometimes found MSN superior to Google, and often try a search both ways. Old habits die hard, so Google has a major hold, but in time they will either remove this new site filter, or become second rate.
