Hi All,

Until recently I had my site hosted on free space with Tiscali, I managed to build up a pretty decent search location on Google. I transfered my site to a new host about 2 -3 weeks ago but Google is still showing the site at the old location, the new location is no where to be found. Is there an easy way to get this changed or will it just take time or will I need to start from scratch.

All my previous promotion was done using the same web site address as I used to use web forwarding so that the domain name showed on the browser and not the tiscali address. Although it shows up on Google using the tiscali address in the form myweb.tiscali.co.uk/myaddress.

I hope this makes sense.

Many Thanks

Jim

you would want to put a 301 redirect on the old page pointing at the new page. this will let google know they page has been permanently moved.

Thanks Monkey,

I've done a bit of research on doing 301 redirects, sounds easy enough, it seems to me that I just have to put a command like 'redirect 301 / http://www.celebrationballoons.biz' into a file called '.htaccess' and if the file dosn't already exist then just create it in notepad.

Sounds easy enough but it didn't work, at least it didn't seem to, when I ftp'd it up to the old website it just dissapeared, seem to transfer OK but didn't appear at the far side.

I think i'm just being a bit thick here but has anyone got any ideas, perhaps this sort of thing dosn't work in tiscali's free space.

Thanks

Jim

I guess the free server dont allow the .htaccess probably. I may be wrong also. If they allow use 301 redirect or else you can us any redirect but you need to promote that again.

Better if they dont allow the 301 redirect is to use something like

Site has been permanently moved to xyz.com ....
