Hi,

my site is quite a basic site (www.triangularwebdesign.co.uk), its my first proper site which i am using as an online portfolio to show my graphic design talent (its up to employers to decide whether i have any). Anyway i've been doing bits on bobs, adding meta descriptions, alt tags to images and changing my images folder to read "Web design, logo design from Triangular, etc". I've submitted to google and other smaller directories but i know changing the structure of my html code will also help but i'm not sure what I exactly need to do Does anyone know where else i can link my site? Really need to improve the ranking!!
Thanks
Tom

What's on your site or how the html is structured (as long as the search engine spider can follow all your internal links) has nothing to do with your Pagerank. Pagerank is calculated from the inbound links pointing to your site.

The one thing a nice site with great content and structure will do will is make it easier for you to find linking partners willing to link to you. If you have a site that is worthwhile, try to find some websites related to yours and ask them to trade links with you. As you build your own sites pagerank, other sites will begin asking you for links making the process much easier.

Also, there really are only 3 search engines worth submitting to: Google, MSN and Yahoo as they control about 99% of the search market. However, if you have incoming links from strong websites that are already in these SEs you will be found almost instantly so the process of submitting your site is really a waste of time.

Yes, I think you're confusing PageRank with the ranking of your site on the search results. You are right to be more concerened with the latter. There's a lot to learn about optimizing your site for the search engine. Even if you're an expert in the field, don't forget that your competition may be one step ahead of you.

If it was PR (PageRank) you were asking about. It's just one parameter that Google uses to determine the importance of a page. Roughly, PageRank is a reflection of the backlinks to your site. The PR of the page linking to yours, as well as the number of outbound links from that page, all come into account when Google decides on your PageRank.
