Google are just messing about with the algo again
I work on UK job site www.redgoldfish.co.uk currently the spider hits us every day sometimes twice a day, with at least 60,000 hits a month - so very high bot activity, yet we dont feature in the listings in any where significant. We are being held back without any doubt.
One key word for example "insurance Jobs" we are at position 370 and thats for a sub domain. Next to the subdomain item was our "Insurance Section" page - so we had the two pages next to each other. As at today the one page for the section of the listings has gone all together. we feature thousands of jobs in this sector with thousands of quality pages, We were page rank 5 at the last update yet get beaton by crap websites or directory sites with little content.
IMO despite the volume of spidering we remain firmly in the sandbox. Google does not want to list any of our pages in the first 10 anywhere and i genuinely belive that for commercial sites this is the objective. To extract as much cash as possible on PPC prior to listing a site.
The recent Beta PPC inclusions page only they have set up at google is a very good indication they want to go down this route. Google will soon lose its market share because i can clearly see that they do not list relevant data now, only data they wish to show after a set period of time. I guess its fine for you if you have a top listing, but if you dont frustrating to see Google index in this way. The results imo get less relevant in this search engine every day. If they just want a search engine full of paid adverts only, to satisfy shareholders let them get on with it.
Currently on the new msn beta search engine our site features under various search terms, it proves that google is now not interested in listing sites based on content which is a dam shame imo
Good luck all with the next update, but im not holding my breath that it will make any differance
