Search engine submission won't do much for your PR. You need to contact sites with content related to your own (if you sell cars, contact other online car dealerships, for instance) and ask them to link to your website. The higher the PR of the sites that link to you, and the more closely related their content is to your own, the better.

I'm not, however, saying that search engine submission isn't the way to go. PR isn't the most important thing--so you're definitely on the right path by getting listed on search engines. The next step, though, is to get other sites to link to you. This will both bring you a stream of targeted traffic (although most likely not as much as search engines will bring you) and will increase your PageRank.

DevelopedWeb is correct. Submitting to search engines wont do zip to your PR. While links from any category of site will increase your PR and your placing in the SERPS, usually most sites will only trade with similar content.

Next, you have to find a keyword. If you cannot get hundreds of back links, try and pick a keyword that is not too competitive but brings in a lot of traffic. http://inventory.overture.com/d/sear...ry/suggestion/ should help you to find a keyword. Once you have your keyword (this is the most important bit) try and get websites to use this as the link text when they link to your website. http://info.vilesilencer.com/main.php?rock=add_url.php has a great list of directories where you can submit your site for free. Most of these wont let you use your own link text however - and will require the name of your site.

Another good idea is to put your keywords in the <title> tag of your website.

That's pretty much the basics all summed up!

Search engines submit engines are a waste of time. Submit to google and the directories manually... and then start establishing quality backlinks...
