Page one in google for one day and then back down!!!

Hi

I've been working on optimising one of our pages for a competitive keyword 'learn spanish'. We have managed to maintain a position on page 2 now of search in google (previously page 3), however we have moved to page one twice in the space of 3 months.

This happened again yesterday, does anyone know why we are only appearing on page one for a matter of hours and straight away the next day drop back down?

has anyone experienced anything simailar to this?

Matt few questions need to be answered.

1. What is your Geo targeting region?
2. What is your domain name and where is it hosted?
3. How much of unique content is there on the website?(which can be determined once you mention your website.)
4. What are the different kind of activities you are doing on a weekly basis?
5. What time of the day do you go up in the ranking?

Google switches between data centers several times each day and each data center has its own ranking. So it is common to see your site fluctuating in serps. Your competitiors are working very hard to advance in serps too. If you don't work hard enough, they will take your place.

There are some important reasons,
1 More competition on your niche
2 Freshness of backlinks
3 Consistency of backlinks

Well, one guess is that your competitor's site is doing much better in terms of seo and promotion than you..

It is not because of the competitors as I might guess. Hopefully, Matt will provide us with some more info.

Oh, same happens with my site but after a hard work of 3 months now it is improved a lot.

There should be some fluctuation from google and its great achivement i have to say. You need to keep work on that consistently. It will be back asap.

it happens all the time... you just to need to figure it out by observing your site. try to re optimize your site and see what happen.

It is very often with new sites after indexing they initially rank well and soon their ranking drops a lot and then it takes time to regain or get well rank again and it can be possible if you continue on building quality links to your site and have some patience.
