Link building against google terms ??

Hi guys

Ive been looking thru the terms of service on google and I cant find anything that says link building is against their terms of service.

There is an option saying manipulation of pagerank is against terms of service.

So is link building given as a part of site promotion now, or is it indeed against the rules ?

I have been trying to advise another webmaster, who has been told he would be reported and banned by google for doing this by another webmaster, but surely this doesnt make sense ? I dont see how he could be reported anyhow ?

There is nothing wrong with placing your link on another site.

The internet runs on links. If it wasn't for links there wouldn't BE an Internet.

People believe any old drivel they read without considering if it is logical or sensible. You are correct. It is only links that are intended for manipulation are not recommended. Normal everyday linking is perfectly fine and should be encouraged.

Yeah its nothing wrong with link exchange and google appreciate white hat techniques for promoting website. And link exchange is among them.

Ethical link building is the backbone of the internet, so it is not something search engines dislike.

Doing link building is one way to rank your site in Google. So It's very clear that this is not against with Google.

Yeah, it does not actually say "link building", but what do you think they are talking about?

Basically, if you get a link by asking, begging, paying, etc, Google will not
approve of it.

Some people say my methods are unethical, then they pass a few hundred
dollars for their monthly link fees. You see, they have quietly agreed among
themselves that buying links is ok, ethical. They just call it advertising or
whatever. They call themselves whitehat and call me blackhat.

Maybe it's me, but I have never figured out the rationale behind building a fake network, because you have to get links to the junk site for them to have any "weight" to pass on.
So now you have multiplied the work needed in comment spamming and forum signature spamming.

Well, link building is never against google terms, but using programs and schemes for link exchanges specifically to build links is against of this.

So, there is nothing wrong in building Link if you do it in right way.

The total SEO is depends up on the link building. Yes if you go for the spamming in link building than it may be go against Google terms. Google does not like spammers. So i suggest do not go against Google terms.

You will never find it, since it was never a violation in the first place. And manipulation is very different from natural link building. One example of manipulation that is considered is link buying. Though I'm not sure exactly how that is being detected. But either way, its better to do things the right way.
