Will the site with high traffic be in a position higher than
a page with lesser traffic for the same keyword?

Usually no. But I believe that Google is starting to use user data, so it is a matter of time before unpopular pages drop in SERPs. But at this moment I do not think that it is a factor in Google.

There is so much involved in rankings its hard to say. I would say its more about the quality and trust of your site rather then pure mass traffic.

At the moment the answer is no. But there are so many changes going on with regards to ranking at the moment that I would not be surprised if this changes soon

To be honest, serp ranking are so confusing at times, simply because that's how google wants us to be - confused. So that we wouldn't figure out how exactly their algo really works. But I think that also has a contribution on serp rankings.

PR has nothing to do with how much traffic you are getting. You can be a PR0 and get 1000 U/V's a day. Or you can be a PR10 and only get 1 U/V a day. PR is based on so many factors. All of which are kept a closed secret. The rest is just assumption and common sense. PR is probably based on how many backlinks you have and the PR of each of those backlinks.

I don't think so. SERP is based on the quality and relevancy of links of a site. Traffic is a totally different factor.

I haven't heard or read any kind of article regarding traffic affecting SERP, but IMO I guess there are a little bit of effect, most sites that are acquiring high traffic ranks well in SERP..

I think it's not direct basis but I think the user experience on the page can be possible one of the basis to measure the relevancy of your site to search results.

I don't think so. My site ranked quite well a few months ago while there were only a few visitors a day. So I don't think it is a factor.

I am not a SEO expert, but my personal opinion is that, the traffic and ranking are two different things. Things depend on the searched KW.

I check my site for few KWs. It ranks higher [for a certain KW: not my site name or anything like that] then a site that has 10X times more traffic. And on the other hand, there are some KWs, for which this site ranks on top, and my site rank on page 2 or 3.

i always thought it's the other way round, that serp is the one increasing or decreasing the traffic. serp is your search engine ranking position and where you stand when someone types a keyword right? so higher serp, better traffic? but not sure what you mean by the other way round

In normal word traffic not affecting its SERP positions. But if a page comes in SERP and not able to drive traffic then now Google start to ignore those pages.

Because SE Try to provide 100% relevant result and if they found that some of the site comes in ranking but user avoid to click on that pages.

So its make a bad impression and SERP start avoid those pages which not able to divert traffic on his website.

Google has in the past resisted using behavioral statistics like click-thru-rates, bounce-back-rates, etc. in their ranking algorithm because it is SOOOOOOOOOOOO susceptible to spam...

I will ask Matt Cutts when I see him at Pubcon in November about this again. The official word in the past has always been NO... those types of metrics based on traffic and user behavior have no influence on rankings.

Yes but I have competitors who haven't updated their sites for at least two years still getting better placement than my active sites. I still maintain a rank of zero even with thousands of valuable backlinks. It's interesting tho that traffic doesn't play a role but your web presence does.
