I have a client with a approximately 12,000 product items in their database. I need to create a data feed for Google but would like input as to what would be the best way to do this and what tools would be advisable to simplify the process.

I am assuming that the best thing to do would be to extract data from the catalog to a file (.xlm .xls or .txt) first using a scraper tool. This is a massive source of my confusion- do I need a web scraper, a data mining tool, or a web content extractor? Does anyone have any advice on what software may be compatible with google for setting up readable feeds or what I might try? Are there freeware programs or is it better to buy?

Next an rss feed would be great - how do I convert my .xls or .txt file to rss or should I find a scraper tool that also does this?

How does everyone else do this?

Any advice would be soooo appreciated!

I just wrote some code to output a CSV file which could then be uploaded to Google
