Directories are like "slow and steady wins" initially we may not notice there importance but as the links gets some age ..they helps in PR and in serps but as long as they are dofollow

I may add that even if the directories dont have any PR . theere is no harm in submitting..may be they get PR5 in the next update ??

A link is a link. A link from a site or directory (Not from bad neighborhood) helps u in all the time. But getting 1000 free directory links is not worth a single authoritative link from a established related theme site.
