Given that you have a vested interest in maintaining the myth that real people use directories, it's fairly understandable that you would make this kind of comment, but the fact is that the only real "users" of directories are the ones looking to submit to the directory, or link exchangers looking for more sites to spam.
And of course there is no "SEO" value in a directory, there maybe a minuscule amount of marketing (advertising) value in having a listing, but this would need to be a "full page advert" style listing that was found by search engines, not just a 4 or 5 line entry buried amongst 50 other similar listings.
