Hi,
My SERP is fluctuating. I know that different google e google.mu, google.com, google.co.uk will yield different result for the same keyword phrase. I also know that if I google for a phrase in England using google.co.uk and i google for the same phrase using google.co.uk in India, my SERP can differ.

But I fail to understand that at my place of work when i google for a phrase, my site is on first page but when i go home to do the same , some 10kms away, my site is on the 4th page.

I fail to understand this.

Not only this, i google at my place of work, my site is on 1st page, 2 days later, at my place of work, for the same search, my site is on the 4th page.
This alternates every 3-4 days.

Can anyone tell me whats all this about?

its just a normal thing no reason for you to be bothered... just be consistent with your optimization...

I dont think this is a normal thing...Other sites which ranked with the same keywords have their SERP varying from 2-3 in the ranking position..
But my site is varying from page 1 to page 4.

My site is optmised for keywords, am constantly building backlinks, posting/replying to forums

Any professional can advise me on this...

This can be normal for your rankto fluctuate. The only way to stabalize it is to build more links.

I think that if your check your position in other computer the serp change and it´s the same as on computer before. I have same problem. One day is my site on first page, next nowhere after week on second and still around. I need more quality backlinks I think...

I just checked on their blog and on the first of April, 2008, Google will be releasing a screensaver that tracks your live page rank and displays it in a 3-dimensional color graph. Unfortunately, it's only available for Windows Vista, so to use it, you'll have to upgrade.

Now that's something I can do without!

I've noticed some wild fluctuations as well, and like you it differed between work and home. Here's a few things to keep in mind:

1) Google's servers don't update at the same time, so results commonly vary depending on what server you are directed to.
2) There is a very good chance you are hitting up different servers at work compared to home. The physical distance between the two means very little, it's the network topology that matters.

What you are experiencing is not abnormal, especially if you have made significant changes to your site or you have significantly more backlinks compared to Google's last index update. Give some time and things should settle down and be somewhat consistent across all servers.

are you sure its the same you use?? i mean google.com??

Its normal, just continue building more building links.

Well.....no need to worry a lot about this as a little bit fluctuation is normal and it happens time to time. Just focus on getting more quality links to your site....

It is very normal to see a site to vary in SERP everyday!

Hello fluctuation is not a new thing... Its happening always.. But you are checking daily//// thats why yopu feel its fluctuating

You need to continue promoting and building links for your site. It's normal that your ranking sometimes fall. That's why you need to build more links.

chris is right it is really not advisable to check keywords from time to time...
