OK guys

First post in a while so straight in at the deep end eh...

I recently developed the website Jobs In Tenerife out of an extreme frustration at the lack of facilities available to job hunters here on the island.

Now the site's very basic and indeed needs some more coding to make it better but I had time on my hands and decided to give the other sites a run for their money.

My question then is this:

The site's been live for just over 2 weeks and depending which version of Google you use:

google.co.uk
google.com
google.es

The site appears anywhere between organic link 3 and 15

OK I think for a site that hasn't yet had it's backlinks indexed however I noticed something else in the referrer data:

The results depend also on the language settings coming through from the browser's headers.

So, getting to the point as swiftly as I can...

How can I optimise my site, or request a particular googlebot or through some form of osmosis get Google.co.uk and .es to lend more importance to my site. Or, to put it another way...

How do I get the site further up in these results for the two main Google pages that my prospective browsers would be using...?

I think you'd want to do things to show Google you're more relevant in the UK and Spain. It might be hard to do both, though, certainly harder than one or the other

A country specific TLD would help. If you want to rank better in google.co.uk you might want jobsintenrfie.co.uk. I think hosting in the same country as the extension would help, though some will probably debate whether there's any significance there.

Maybe the english side of the site should be on .co.uk and the spanish side of the site should be on .es. You might want to use Geo IP delivery to send people and spiders to the right version of the site.

You should also mention both Spain and the UK in your content. Addresses would help. Anything you can do to tie the site in with the country locations should signal Google that the site is related to those areas.

I'd also speculate that if your incoming links were coming from sites tied to the locations it would help. Country specific directories maybe. Business associations in the areas. Local newspapers.

I think anything signal you can give that the site is more relevant to Spain and the UK than it is to say the US the better. Probably all the usual seo applies, but if you have the opportunity for the geographical tie in try to get it.

Know that I'm speculating a lot with the above. I haven't tried to specifically rank in any Google other than the .com version, but the above are things I would try to do. Oddly when I first launched my site I had a lot of traffic from the French version of Google. Never did understand why, though I suspect a few people in France linked to my site.
