I'm new to all this so forgive the ignorance.

I realise that the purpose of most websites is to make money and to do that you need converted customers. That means that 100,000 vistors with 1% conversion is just as good as 1,000 vistors with 100% conversion. Unfortunately, the second conversion rate is much less likely than the first so we all strive to maximise the number of visitors. Isn't a good PR a way to achieve this (or am I barking up the wrong tree?)

No. A good way to get more visitors is to rank highly for phrases people search for. PR has very little to do with that (PR is only one of many factors that influence rankings).

A 100 % conversion rate would be mythical, but that doesn't mean everyone is forced to remain forever at 1 %. Going from 1 % to 10 % might be easier than going from 10 K to 100 K visitors a day. Or, it might not ... lots of testing and smarts are important if your web site's purpose is to make money.

PR 4 is unacurate now, and really doesn't mean anything. What good will it do you, unless you are trying to make money and impress someone to buy a link?

It doesn't make a good fatcor. It comes with the hard work done to a site.

Hi.. I would like to know how anyone could reach a PR3 - PR5 in such a short time. I know people are discussing here about PR not important but I need the increase in PR to show the success of an SEO activity like link-building, article submission, etc.

you can't

The useless green bar will update when Google updates it.

Might be 3 days from now, might be 3 weeks, might be 3 months.

Measure SEO "success" by something tangible, such as;
increased sales
increased enquiries
increased traffic
increased signups or members

Anything other than that is pointless effort.
