You need to get links pointing to yor site. The more the better. The higher the PR of the page linking to you the better too.

Send an email to other webmasters requesting a link exchange or get content that is so good people will link to it anyway.
(or they will steal it :-)

heres what i did... i typed in the search terms that people were using to get to my site on google. then in those results i looked for people who provided information on the stuff i sell. then i just made up a really lame email that i sent to those sites that said something like: ... getting started with my website.... your site has similiar items to mine.... can you give me a link anywhere?

pretty much everybody said yes

Or put some meta-like words somewhere obscure in your website. Google usually archives the content of the site.
