MySQL should be good enough to handle 1million records. If you have enough budget, you may consider Oracle or MS SQL as well.

Why, out of curiosity?

I've had up to 230 million records in single SQL Server table (not partitioned); most queries would run in 2 to 3 seconds. Ones that couldn't exploit the main indexes would take up to five minutes...

For a million records, you could use the free version of SQL Server 2005.

Hi Folks!
I have same problem with blobby.
That is my application database is large (10GB-->500GB) and my boss can't pay for Oracle because it's so expensive for his company. Because of requirement, I pay attention to MS SQL Server or PostgreSQL but I don’t know these DBMSs can work well as expect?
The language of application is Java, the server which run this application is medium-->high.

Now I decide to choose PostgreSQL but I also have an another question: Does PostgreSQL support distributed database attribute?
Between distributed application and distributed database, which is best?
Please give me your advice!!
Thanks so much!
