Hello,

I am creating a website for my local sports team, and was wondering if a MS Access database would be sufficent to use. I want to use it to display player stats and and allow administrators to update player stats through the admin page i built. I really want to use MS Access because its easier to work with than mysql, but is this a good decision?

for that use Access will be perfectly adequate. I don't see how you see that Access is easier to work with than MySql though they both "speak" the same language (ANSII SQL-92) and any queries designed for MySQL will work in Access.

i think it is a little bit easier to work with Access if you are a beginner, because you can set up the whole database on your local computer without any coding knowledge. However as soon as you have completed the first Access based website, I recommend you to switch to MySql afterwards.

This is something that i am trying to do as well (Sports team database).

Has anyone got/or now of any good tutorials/sites that would help me as I am unsure of how to intregrate my database into a webpage.

Many Thanks

It would be great if the original poster could post a link so that i could see how their site/database turned out.

Thanks again

The interface is easier to work with, as far as designing tables and whatnot. I never could get used to MySQL myself, and I also don't support their neverending barrage of emails that they send when I had to register just to download the **** thing (thank you Yahoo! and throwaway email addresses.)

Access should be fine, but if you use ASP and Access, be prepared to learn how to do it from the various tutorial sites out there (the best is Haneng.com -A different ASP developer site) but then recode it to optimize for speed and resource usage. Most of the tutorials out there are complete horse****. They "work", but if your site gets any amount of traffic, they'll crap out.

I personally think Access is no good. If you're ever planning on handling any large amount of traffic you should switch to MySQL. MySQL is the database used by the majority of websites (besides the really big ones) and is actually quite easy to use if you follow one of the many online tutorials.

If you haven't picked yet, I'd say PHP/MySQL is the way to go.
