This is a two prong question.

1. I used FileZilla to upload all the phpBB2 files yesterday. I'm not entirely sure where it put them. I had made a folder/directory with the name phpBB2. So I believe they are in there, but beliefs are not fact.

a. are those files supposed to be in the database?

b. if they are not in the database, but in the directory I made, can that become the database?

or.

2. is the problem I'm having that I did not install the phpMyAdmin to administrate my database because I wrongly thought that would be in conflict with phpBB2?

a. do I need to "adminsitrate" my database as well as have the phpBB2 do its thing, wherever and whatever that thing is?

hi Consider-This

I think you're a little confused as to what you're doing here. A database is not on your server, you wont be able to access it from an FTP location. A database (and specifically you need mySQL for PHPBB) is usually connected to via PHPMyAdmin, does your server allow this?? Also, have you read the readme file that comes with PHPBB, it's amazingly good and comes with express installation instructions.

To install phpbb, all you need do is upload the files, and then point a web browser at that folder. PhpBB is set up to pass you to the install script the first time you view the board - this script will prompt you for your database connection info (your username and password etc that your host can give you), then the script will set up all the database tables automatically and get your forum running. All you need do then is delete the install and contrib folders (it will instruct you to do this if you don't) at whichpoint your forum should be up and running.

If it asks for something like the mySQL version number that you are unsure of, ask your host.
