I had about 734 members and over 5000 posts, so i went on my admin panel did a Full Backup incase i get hacked or anything like that, now 1 week after i did the back up my forum got hacked and i already had 801 members, but i started over again, and i installed PHPBB 2.0.13
cause i was using .phpBB 2.0.11, well now that i started over i went back to my admin panel and went to Restore Backup and i uploaeded the backup wich i had saved on my pc, but it told me No File Uploaded, now some people have told me some reasons why is not working, some are because if the backup is bigger than 2MB it will not upload.

now i have seen some methods on how i can upload it(by breaking it into little peaces) but the thing is im new to all this and the one that providing me with the hosting is new aswell, cause i read the full instruction but i dont understand how to do it

so im wondering if i send the backup to anyone from here and give them my username and password to my admin panel and if nedded to my FTP will they be able to upload the backup succesfull for me ?

Hmm, isn't that an open invitation to get hacked again? I'm sure there are plenty of good samaritans about who would help but the chance of having a username and password of a stranger is too tempting for some with other intents.

Besides. If you have a 2Mb upload limit then it doesn't matter if you upload or if Johnny Goodguy does - the 2Mb limit will still apply.

What you need to do is to increase that 2Mb limit. The way to change it is in the php.ini file and then restart apache. If you have root access to a dedicated server then you can do this yourself, else you will need to ask your hosters to increase the upload limit. If they have an issue with that ask them to just do it temporarily.

The other way would be to FTP the file to the server (which would have no file size limit) and do a manual drop and creation of the database tables. This is a bit more complex but can be done in minutes.

I think it's probably safer to get your webhosters to do this for you and take the hourly charge hit.

You dont need to upload your file if you are using phpmyadmin, you can simply copy and paste the sql from the backup into the query window. You need to delete the parts of the file that creates stuff, and only have the INSERT INTO sql left.

Before restoring the db you should check if the the database structure have changed from the version you we're using to the new version you have installed. if it has changed and you restore without checking, the information from the backup may be useless.

Of course its possible to send your sensitiv information to anyone at this forum, but i cant say i recommend it in any way. As Frank Rizzo says its an invitation to get hacked. You should also change the username/pass on your db after getting hacked, since it is likely the intruder already have this information and are just waiting for something new to come up so he/she can mess it up again.

If your host was good they would have 24/7 online chat support and be able to do it for you. Check maybe they do!

I dont think I would ever give out my root password to anyone no matter what site ever. IMHO (well unless I transferred said site to said owner )
