I hope everyones ready for this dumb question?

Heres the short story...

I used to work in the past for this web development, design company as a junior designer. I helped work in databases using MySQL.

Basically now im going it alone and wondering how to set it up.

Ive installed MySQL Version 5.1.36 on my Mac OS X 10.4 to the point in terminal where I can start MySQL.

I have Julie C Melonis teach yourself MySQL, PHP and Apachi, I have gone through the MySQL website but cant seem to get an answer.

When I worked for this company they seemed to have had a program where it was easier to input new databases etc etc. All other companys I have worked for havent gone into databases or cms systems.

What I would like to know is from installing and starting MySQL, where do I go from there?

and is there a program called MySQL which I load up so it is easier to organise databases etc?

Just to remind you im new to this and will thank anyone who responds and thank you in advance. I am also willing to pay anone for any in depth, further details as in, if they would like to add me to sykpe or msn and talk me through this. I am a very honest and reliable person who basically just finally needing to get this sorted.

ok. so the problem so far is... I cannot install MySQL.
I use XAMPP control to turn it on and get this following message:

Starting MySQL... ERROR! Manager of pid-file quit without updating file.

I have the latest version of MySQL and use MySQL Administrator and Sequel Pro, well i will when it gets going.

What i need to know is...

1. Why doesnt it work?
2. If and when it is working then how do i get my login details for it?
3. Anything else you wanna add.

This is seriously a dumb persons question but i am a: a dumb person and b: new to databases.

plus, unless you have some great link, i have pretty much searched the web, read every book my library has consisting of the word MySQL and tried phpmyadmin but still prefer to use MySQL.

So its now come to that point:
