Digg continues to grow, claiming 20 million visitors per month and an increasing amount of mainstream attention. But as traffic to Digg has grown, the incentive to “game” the site to get stories to the home page has also increased. Digg fights the abuse by using a number of weapons (deleting offending accounts, changing the [...]

I love how people are shocked that Digg is a failure, and that people are voting in blocks and clusters to try and game the system.

Give me a break. Social networking DOES NOT WORK when it comes to the Internet. It's far too easy to screw with.

Digg has been flawed from the beginning, Im surprised it has lasted this long.,
It wont be long before you will be able to buy a script that creates 200 accounts, Submits a story and Diggs it to the front page all on it's own.

I made a blog post about spike the vote. A site that will use a community of diggers who digg each others story.
It will have enough people so it makes it hard to track whos digging what and 80% of the stories that people digg will be random stories to make it impossible for digg to figure out what stories are being dugg by the spike the vote community.

Digg is dying a slow death.

I agree there are flaws in the system and that too few people have too much control over the system. I'm not sure if a slow death or a quick death is coming for Digg though. I don't see social networking going away anytime soon. In fact I would argue that social networking is the way the forward.

Digg may be flawed, but utlimately the web is social in nature. This or any forum is an example fo a social network. Digg itself may go away at some point, but I think the idea of social networking sites is here to stay.
